David "Davy" Jones started his baseball career with Milwaukee before the
National and American Leagues were structured, as we know them. Jones
averaged .270 over 1,085 games. He hit .265 in 15 World Series games.
Jones played for Milwaukee, the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and
Pittsburgh Pirates. He was probably best known for being part of a
Tigers' outfield that included Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford. In fact, Jones
was credited with keeping the crabby Cobb and sometimes-pugnacious
Crawford out of several altercations while playing with them.
